Curious about the difference and why the change from RCIA to OCIA?
Join us on Wednesday, September 11th 7:00 p.m. at the
Family Center for an orientation meeting. Come and See!
If you know of someone who is searching, ask them to come and see what we are about or call the office with their name and one of the team members will invite them.
For more information contact the Parish Office.
The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) is a nine month series of sessions for adults and older children who would like to learn more about the Catholic faith. Participants may include non-Catholics considering joining the Catholic Church, Catholic adults seeking more information about their faith, and others who simply want to learn more about Catholicism.
This is an opportunity to explore and grow in faith, in accordance with the guidance and Grace of the Holy Spirit. There is never an effort to pressure anyone into entering the Church. It is a process of discernment.
The RCIA/OCIA team at Saint Mary’s consists of involved, enthusiastic, and faithful parishioners who enjoy sharing our Catholic beliefs and practices with others. Team members teach, facilitate discussion, and may serve as sponsors for those who may decide to enter the Church. Some team members are also available by appointment to meet with those participating in the Order to address questions or other matters.
The formal RCIA/OCIA process begins early each fall; we do, however, strive to accommodate those whose schedules make attending Wednesday evening meetings impossible. The first part of the year, or pre-inquiry period, focuses on each week’s Gospel readings and topics common to most Christian faiths. Next, we examine in some detail Catholic dogma, devotions, and practices and how they guide and enrich our spiritual growth as Catholic Christians. Throughout the year, participants are encouraged to ask questions and share their own journey as Christians. Please call the Parish Office (208-882-4813) at any time of the year for more information, to speak with an RCIA/OCIA team member, or to get started. All are welcomed.
