RELIGIOUS EDUCATION COORDINATOR

(Pre-K through grade 5) 

The Religious Education Coordinator is a member of the parish staff responsible for the preparation of catechetical and spiritual formation of children in our parish. 

REPORTS TO: Pastor 

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE FLSA STATUS: Exempt 

Coordination and Administration

1. Serves as member of the parish staff. Participates in decision-making regarding total parish direction and activities. Attends staff meetings and Faith Formation Team meetings.

2. Serves as a member of the Faith Formation Team along with the Coordinator of Youth Ministry. Participates in the planning and implementation of team activities such as registration, Catechetical Sunday, joint children/youth projects, parent and catechist formation, and Safe Environment trainings. 

3. Prepares and manages the Children’s Faith Formation portion of the parish budget. 

4. Recruits, trains, and promotes faith formation of catechists and other program volunteers. 

Program Content and Development 

1. Determines appropriate curriculum for various grade levels. Assures proper balance among program components, i.e., catechesis, prayer, worship, social outreach, and ministry opportunities. 

2. Responsible, with Pastor and St. Mary’s School Administrative Team, for preparation for First 

Sacraments of all parish children.

3. Discerns emerging formational needs for PreK through fifth grade; develops program modifications and enhancements to meet needs as they develop. 

4. Ensures fulfillment of Diocesan “Circle of Grace” curriculum in classrooms. 

QUALIFICATIONS 

1. Active member of a Catholic parish faith community. 

2. Successful completion of the Parish Safe Environment process. 

3. Undergraduate degree in elementary education, or equivalent. 

4. Parish experience with catechetics for children. 

6. Ability to relate equally well with children and adults in the parish. 

7. Basic computer skills. 

8. Willingness to work on Sunday mornings. 

TIME COMMITMENT 

5-10 hours per week
